The Prichard Art Gallery has been known for promoting excellence in visual art and design at the University of Idaho by facilitating innovative research and programming. Transformative experiences from the gallery have fostered engagement across the university, in our local community, and throughout our region and state. 

Through difficult financial years, the Prichard Art Gallery took a back seat to academic programs in the College of Art and Architecture. As we pull through the challenging era, there is renewed faith that the gallery will come back with re-invigorated energy. A building purchase along with funds for basic renovation have given the stakeholders a tangible sign of the university’s commitment to this endeavor. We are hopeful that the downtown location will create new opportunities to re-engage our students and the larger community. 

In 2021, the former Moscow Police Station was purchased by the University of Idaho, and plans are currently underway to renovate the building into a mixed-use facility: The Prichard Art Gallery, VandalStore, and Vandal Welcome Center--set to open in Fall 2024. With a generous in-kind pre-design donation from KNIT Studios, the Prichard Art Gallery is one step closer to serving our community once more.

Each year, the Prichard Art Gallery welcomes over 17,000 visitors, including 1,700 students from the immediate and surrounding communities. Through broadly conceived exhibition programming, educational outreach, and related opportunities, the Prichard is dedicated to broadening cultural understanding through the arts. From exhibitions showcasing internationally recognized artists to the culminating MFA thesis exhibitions of our own graduate students, thought-provoking connections to a wide array of subject matter are made tangible in the work. Students and members of the community and region are the beneficiaries of unique educational opportunities and artistic experiences provided by the Prichard.
