More than 900 students have declared majors in the College of Science. The college places great emphasis on providing students with opportunities to engage in hands-on, real world research. Our graduates go on to some of the most prestigious graduate and medical schools in the country, and to successful careers in industry, government, and academia. Our talented and dedicated faculty won more than $18 million in research funding in FY 2019. Your generous gifts will help support students in the following ways:
College of Science Scholarships
The cost of higher education is one of the major barriers keeping qualified students from attending the University of Idaho. In the current economic climate, scholarships are more important than ever before. Your gift for scholarships will help current students to complete their degrees, and provide access to the benefits of a University of Idaho education for future Vandals.
College of Science Excellence Fund
Gifts to the Excellence Fund will allow the college to respond quickly to provide support for students facing financial hardships due to the pandemic. We also use the Excellence Fund for essential outreach to encourage prospective students to join the Vandal Family. One popular outreach event is the Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) Program, a partnership between the College of Science, the College of Engineering, and UI Coeur d’Alene to encourage young women in high schools throughout northern Idaho to pursue studies and careers in STEM fields.
College of Science Undergraduate Research Fund
Samuel Myers, who just graduated with degrees in physics and mathematics, came to the University of Idaho because of the opportunities we offer for undergraduate research. Sam is a National Merit Scholar and a national Goldwater Scholarship recipient, and will be starting work on his Ph.D. at the University of Arizona in the fall. Past undergraduate research participants have gone on to graduate school at some of the most prestigious universities in the country, including Stanford, Princeton and Cal Tech, to name just a few. Gifts to the COS Undergraduate Research Fund will be used to fund competitive research grants that help the college recruit outstanding students like Sam.
Thank you!
We know these are challenging times. If you are in a position to do so, please consider a gift to support current and future Vandals in the College of Science. Your generosity truly makes a difference in our students' lives. Thank you!
